Getting around the city

The province of La Spezia boasts excellent transport links, and the main tourist attractions of the area can be easily reached from the city centre. Here is how to get around using public transport, the best way to leave the stress of driving and parking behind, while helping the environment too!

Close to the pedestrianised area, alongside Passeggiata Morin (the promenade), you will find the maritime tourism consortium’s boarding point. From April to 1st November, its 15 boats connect the province’s main seaside destinations every day. Sea lovers will enjoy the opportunity to admire the spectacular views and landscape from a unique and diverse viewpoint.

The available lines run from:

• La Spezia to Portovenere, Isola Palmaria, Cinque Terre.
• Portovenere to Isola Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, Cinque Terre.
• Lerici to Portovenere and Cinque Terre.
• Levanto to Cinque Terre and Portovenere.

In addition to the road and motorway routes detailed in the ‘how to get here’ section, public bus transportation in La Spezia is provided by A.T.C., a company that has been operating in the province for over 30 years.

The ‘urbano’ bus service covers the municipality of La Spezia, while the ‘extra urbano’ reaches the rest of the province, as well as cities such as Carrara and Aulla, and the province of Reggio Emilia.

In recent months, additional services have been added to and from the main tourist destinations, to meet growing demand.

In recent years, train services in the area have undergone radical improvement and the creation of the Cinque Terre Express was a major turning point.

Promoted by the park of the same name, in collaboration with Liguria and Trenitalia, the Cinque Terre Express operates in a similar fashion to a light railway, ensuring fast and frequent connections between La Spezia Centrale and the train stations of the five Cinque Terre villages. During the day, departures are scheduled every 30 minutes.

There are also frequent services to Sarzana, an important centre in Val di Magra, and to the neighbouring areas of Versilia and Lunigiana.
